Data Analyst

The Role:

Working with key customers and project team members, the Data Analyst is a specialist in the area of data and plays a significant role in ensuring all data-related components are delivered according to specifications.  The Data Analyst is responsible for complete data analysis and data recommendations on all initiatives, processes and technologies for customer projects.  Specific tasks include but not limited to:

  • Works closely with the Business community (i.e. Business Subject Matter Experts, Business Analysts) to translate business information needs into a logical data model;
    • Gathers data requirements
    • Define entities, attributes, data types and data relationships
    • Validate the data model against business requirements

  • Works with all members of a project team
    • Works closely with the Data Modeler and Subject Matter Experts (Business or IT) to define consistent and an accurate view,  definition of data requirements and validate the data model against business requirements
    • Works closely with the Application Development Team (Architects, Developers), Business Community (Business Analysts, Business Subject Matter Experts) and Domain Experts to define enterprise view of data domains
    • Works closely with DBA to translate logical data models to physical data models

  • Works closely with Technical teams on data conversion or initial database loads

The Skills and Qualifications We’re Looking For:

  • Post secondary Degree – preferably Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent combination of education & work experience. 
  • Excellent English communication skills – both written & verbal.
  • Excellent interpersonal, client and team relationship skills.
  • Experience using one ore more data modeling tools (example:  PowerDesigner)
  • Solid understanding of Data modeling concepts
  • Proven record operating as an experienced Data Analyst on a variety of business application projects
  • Strong skills with various ETL and SQL tools
  • Ability to design and build data-access objects using SQL and or JAVA
  • Strong technical skills with various RDBMS is required;
    • Mix of Oracle, DB2, MS SQL Server or MySQL is required.
  • A demonstrated ability to interact with a variety of end-users and business clients.
  • High level of initiative, decisiveness and business acumen, must be willing to accept a large amount of responsibility.
  • Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Capacity to assign priorities to multiple competing and important activities under tight deadlines.
  • Travel in GTA is required – Office is located in Mississauga and various customer sites across the GTA.

Additional information….Key Responsibilities

  • Advise and perform logical data modeling
  • Document logical data model designs in the PowerDesigner tool
  • Advise and perform enterprise data modeling
  • Design generic logical data models to support multiple industries and multiple lines of business
  • Perform first cut physical data model design (light denormalization of logical data model – as such keeping the logical data model equivalent to the physical data model)
  • Perform data domain analysis and reconciliation
  • Performing data mapping  (comparing and mapping two data structures)
  • Advise on data movement/data conversion
  • Define and apply data modeling standards
