Flash Flex Developer

The Role:

The Flash Developer builds Flash applications using Macromedia Flash for Web-based, desktop and wireless delivery. Using the Macromedia Flash authoring tool, the Developer will architect, design and execute the framework, components and scripts that compromise Flash projects. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Work closely with project teams consisting of creative (Graphic Designers) and technical (Web & Application Developers, DBA) Consultants to deliver highly functional and visually appealing web applications from design to release;
  • Interacting with project teams, the Developer will understand business and user requirements to determine minimum specifications for Flash development;
  • Design and develop the front-end UI according to user JAD sessions and previously captured requirements;
  • Focus on the balance between creative/graphical content AND technical/business functionality;
  • Expected to design with re-usability in mind;
  • Research and implement innovative scripting techniques.

As part of the selection process, a portfolio of representative projects highlighting your creative and technical contributions is expected.

The Skills and Qualifications We’re Looking For:

  • A demonstrated background with OO Design principles with emphasis on OO Design patterns – MVC model 1 and the Observer pattern (Events);
  • Demonstrated experience developing internet applications and Flash-based games/ business applications utilizing Flash/Flex, PHP, CSS and XML;
  • Solid skills with Macromedia Flash, including object-oriented ActionScript3 (AS3) and/or AS2 especially in multi-use environments;
  • Ability to build stand-alone Flash applications or Flash web-applications having direct communication (i.e. web-service calls) to a central server;
  • Strong skills with web-page development (Dreamweaver and similar), CSS, HTML and Javascript; 
    • Link Flash applications and web-pages using Javascript;
  • Provide usability direction to create a more effective and efficient user experience;
  • Experience with various RDBMS like Oracle, DB2, SQL Server;
  • Experience with Flex is highly desirable;
  • Strong rapid application development background using the AGILE methodology and development processes;
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills;
  • Post secondary-school education – preferably a Degree/Diploma in Math, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent combination of education & work experience;
  • Excellent English communication skills – both written & verbal – are essential.
